This coin has been created by the Royal Australian Mint to honour the deeds and sacrifices of the animals in war. The coin features the purple poppy which is a symbol of war animal remembrance.
During not only the war but in peacetime too, soldiers have worked alongside animals as carriers, messengers, protectors, detectors and mascots. Their presence boosted morale, being company when times were touch and lonely creating an unbreakable bond between animal and human.
The sacrifice of these animals in our quest for freedom should never be forgotten.
